Charon Richardson grew up loving fashion and was lucky enough to work in the hustle and bustle of the fashion world in New York on 7th Avenue for over 15 years. Though she was enthralled by the business she saw that the industry was lacking hip, modern clothing for the plus size woman. In 2008 the company she worked for had to downsize so Charon took that as a calling for her to focus on her passion; which is designing clothing.
Being from St. Croix, Charon decided to use the term “G’wan” which means “Go Ahead” in her native language, as the name for her clothing line which; launched In February of 2011. The line started small with brooches, clutches and leather cuffs. The streets began to talk so Charon started to make individual custom clothing pieces for her clients. Through word of mouth the line grew and now G’wan by Charon offers dresses, casual wear and glam tees.
When G’wan by Charon was launched it was plus size specific, giving contemporary fashion clothing to women sizes 10 and up. Sooner than later the brand became the talk of the town and standard size women where knocking at her door. Now the line carries fashions in all sizes!
In May 2014, Charon was one of three designers chosen to show her collection at the 2014 FashionLink VI Fashion Weekend in St. Croix. She debuted her summer 2014 “Dare You” collection with includes summer dresses, rompers and separates. Charon also showed her first ever swimsuit line.
Since the showing in St. Croix, Charon’s life has changed and she has entered the celebrity status of designers with Marie Dunee and Gwen DeVoe asking for G’wan by Charon pieces for their events.
The overall goal of G’wan by Charon is to have women experience themselves as a part of the global fashion movement. G’wan by Charon is a fashion brand about empowering women to accept themselves exactly as they are. “G’wan!”
